Evaluation of sample rejection rate in clinical biochemistry laboratory before and after implementation of six-sigma methodology

Background: In pre-analytical phase of Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, sample rejection is a very frequent and important source error. It affects the overall quality laboratory services patient care by increasing cost turnaround time. leads to test abandonment causes inconvenience patients staff. Aims Objectives: The aim study was implement define, measure, analyze, improve, control (DMAIC) method six-sigma decrease rate in Laboratory. Materials Methods: this prospective study, rates were analyzed clinical Laboratory before after implementation DMAIC six-sigma. Baseline calculated for year classified based on cause location. Current defects per million opportunities six sigma values calculated. This followed root analysis corrective preventive measures. Reanalysis baseline measures done observe impact these Results: After DMAIC, fell from 1.07% 0.49% with an increase value 3.8 4.1.
